TABLE TENNIS: Blades’ whitewash win narrows the gap

Crawley Community A had their lead trimmed to nine points in the Crawley & Horsham District Table Tennis League after the nearest three rivals all completed whitewashes.

At the foot of the table Horsham Spinners B are now ten points adrift and looking favourites for the drop.

Crawley Community A won 7-2 against Blades B who picked up fine wins with Graham Carter beating in-form John Callcut three straight and Colin Jones edging out Phil ‘Jonyer’ Richardson nine on the fifth.

Barrie Gilbert scored a maximum for community.

Barry Cheer had an excellent four-set win over Stuart Brooks as Foresters D defeated Copthorne A 6-3, Dave Steel won three and Gary Bristowe two.

Foresters B steamrollered Horsham B with the strong line-up of Dan Pound, Mark Collins and Matt Craig showing impressive form.

Trinity A gained an impressive 5-4 victory over Horsham Spinners A.

Amazingly, Marc Burman lost all three having to retire hurt in his last match.

John Robinson won three as usual but was pushed to five by Burman.

Tom Pomej had a good win over Joe Comper.

It was a walk in the park for Blades A with Steve Barby, George Hazell and Tony Catt comprehensively trouncing Harry Collins, Mark Weston and Steve Hoad.

Foresters C clinched a surprising 9-0 win over a strong Crawley Community B line up of Graham Green, Andy Meads and Sai Man Yau.

Excellent maximums for Adam Daley, Gerry Pugh and Johnny Clarke.

Freddy Goodall got his first taste of Premier League action as Horsham Spinners B went down 9-0 to Foresters A, Wes Kate and Daley finished this one quickly.
