One Hit Wonders continue to force the pace after a 9-1 demolition of Cuckfield.

Trebles by Kate Cheer and dad Barry, with the pair also combining to take the doubles against Bev Godfrey and Jim Griffin, helped put them in the ascendancy. Godfrey averted the whitewash when he beat Bertain Siu and he almost pulled off a surprise win against Kate before going down 11-9 in the fifth.

Bullets stayed in pursuit as they edged out Burgess Tigers 6-4 thanks chiefly to a treble by Tomas Pomej, who also teamed up with two-time winner Fred Bodeau to win the all-important doubles against Mike Day and Steve Lewis. Andy Steel missed out to Day, Lewis and Kath Owston, while Bodeau’s singles defeat came at the hands of Day.

Hot on the heel of Bullets are Dynamos after their 8-2 victory over Hang ‘Em High. Mounis Abosedira completed a treble, denying Michael Bridger the same as he beat him in the fifth. There were two wins apiece for Matt Caddy and Dennis Hayden but it was much closer than the scoreline suggests as six matches went the distance and three went to four.

Bats turned out only two players but did well to draw with Lindfield Thunderbolts thanks to a treble by Les Hopkins and two from Terry Dean. Eric Smith was the only singles winner for Thunderbolts and also partnered Andrew Sharland to a doubles win.

It was all change at the top of Division 1 as The X Men took over the running by beating Bashers 8-2. Magiks dropped to second, with Wanderers third. Phil Sayers and Jake Allonby were unbeaten, while team-mate Tim Grant won the other singles and also partnered Sayers to a doubles win against singles winners Annabel Bridger and Brian Taite.

Wanderers had to work hard for their 7-3 victory over Paddlers. There was a treble for Ray Parker plus two for Marcin Andrzejewski and one for Muriel Brewer, who partnered Andrzejewski to the doubles win . Nooch Staplehurst (2) and Alex Jeffery replied.

The juniors of the Wild Bunch were pleased to record a 9-1 victory over Parents Unite, who were spared the whitewash when Peter Dunsby beat Luca Christophersen. There were trebles from Jack Ashworth and Luke Gallagher.

Another junior team in winning ways were Spin Masters, who accounted for Ashenground as Charlie Hough recorded a hat-trick of straight-set wins. He also teamed up with two-times winner Tom Smith to win the doubles and complete a 7-3 scoreline.

Sam Oosterbaan won one as Tony Pells (2) and Ron Gentry replied for Ashenground.

The third junior team, New Lads, missed out as they lost 8-2 to Gangsters but planty of the matches went to four and five sets. Jim Edwell’s treble led the way for Gangsters as two apiece came from Colin Cooper and Vincent L’Estrange. Edwell and L’Estrange won the doubles after singles wins for the youngsters’ David Lea and Noah Loncar. Their team-mate Peter Booth was unlucky to lose two in the fifth. Brian Taite
