Talented young rugby players to tour South Africa

THIRTY-SIX talented rugby players from across East and West Sussex have taken up the opportunity to tour to South Africa as part of a Sussex County under-17 Rugby Squad commencing mid-July 2009 for three weeks.

They will visit Pretoria , Durban and Cape Town competing in a total of 11 matches . It was decided to tour South Africa , one of the toughest nations to play rugby in, to take the Sussex players to a new level of confidence and ability.

The Squad will be able to sample extremes in the tour from playing in small villages on baked dust fields to the perfect pitches of private schools.

Players will be coaching children in small villages and providing them with free kit, as well as having the chance to sample some of the scenery and history of the country.

The aims will be to develop rugby skills, develop players as individuals and to bond them as a team, learn new cultures, experience new lifestyles and make new friendships.

The Squad have packed bags at supermarkets, held fundraising events throughout the counties and managed to secure business sponsorship from L&S Printing, Wheeler Group LLP, Severne Snow Ltd, Direct Residential Lettings Ltd, Brighton College, Robert Horne Group, Hunter Hammond Daniel Associates Limited, D & M Systems Ltd, William Parker Sports College, Opulent UK Ltd and Clark Brownscombe in order to help raise 70,000 to facilitate their tour.

With just two weeks left before their departure to South Africa they will be holding a further bag packing event on 19 July at Tesco, Littlehampton, so when they pack your shopping bags well please feel free to put a pound or two in their collection buckets!
