Targett on target to win Chichester tennis tournament

The boys’ singles tournament was held in the club’s dome, which houses three indoor courts, and was run using a compass draw format of eight players.
Each match consisted of the best of three short sets (to four games), with a match tie-break (to ten points) as the deciding set.

Julian Standish, of the Chichester club, was runner-up and collected the silver medal.
The gold medal went to Alex Targett from Pevensey in East Sussex after he defeated Standish 4-2, 4-1 in a high-quality final.
Tournament organiser and recently-crowned Tennis Sussex referee of the year Peter Cook said: “The staff at the club worked very hard, especially after the extreme weather we’ve had, to keep the facilities open.
“The dome looked more like an igloo from the outside and with the freezing temperatures credit must also go to the players who didn’t complain and still produced some exciting tennis.”
