That's out, Mister England Captain!

ASHES-WINNING England captain Michael Vaughan was the first player ever to be given out by umpire Terry Urben when the rookie Worthing first-class cricket umpire stood in the first County Championship match of his career as a stop-gap on Friday.

Having rejected at least four appeals from Sussex bowlers James Kirtley and Jason Lewry, he raised the finger, following a considerable pause after debut-making Pakistani player, Yasir Arafat's nippy pace bowling rapped Vaughan on the pad.

Urben said: "I do take my time in making decisions. Vaughan had just come in and, during the over before, was talking to me as the non-striker, and saying I'd had a lot of very loud appeals. I replied with the clich that I give it as I see it, and that I hadn't been convinced so far.

"His ball didn't bounce much, it nipped back and got him in front of off stump. I just hope, because of his injury needing a fourth operation, that I'm not the last man to give him out in his career. England need him."
