CHARLES Wright lifted the Championship Singles for the first time at White Rock Bowls Club's Finals Day with an exciting 21-19 win over Gordon Leggatt after 22 ends.

"I always seem to reach the semi-finals or final but I've never managed to win it so I'm relieved," admitted Wright.

The unfortunate Leggatt also lost in two other finals - 21-16 against Ade Pantry in the Handicap Singles and 21-19 to Stan Small in the Veteran Singles.

Other results saw Keith Cheetham and Steve Jeapes ease to victory over Wright and Steve Sands in the Championship Pairs, Small beat Ray Hemsley 21-18 in the Francis Drake, Cheetham triumph 21-17 against Simon Moore in the Two Wood, and M. Heitzman clinch the Dixon Cup for under-16 players
