Title double for Lydia
The talented 16-year-old from Hastings won the women’s singles and mixed doubles, as well as reaching the women’s doubles semi-finals.
One of the 3/4 seeds in the singles, Powell had a bye in the first round before seeing off Ciara Lindsay (Dorset) 21-7, 21-9 in round two.

Hide AdShe then outgunned Brodie Miller (Oxfordshire) 21-8, 21-11 in the quarter-finals and edged past second seed Tsui-Lee Lau (Buckinghamshire) 21-18, 15-21, 21-17 in the semi-finals. The final also went to three games before Powell got the better of Jessica Hopton (Avon) 21-16, 15-21, 21-14.
Seeded one, Powell and Connor Bambrick (Hertfordshire) didn’t drop a game in their three matches en route to the mixed doubles title.
Powell and Nicola Gresty (Gloucestershire) won their women’s doubles quarter-final in straight games before losing 7-21, 16-21 to top seeds Hopton and Miller in the semis.
The previous weekend, Powell and Nicki Chan-Lam (Yorkshire) reached the semi-finals of the women’s doubles at a senior gold circuit event in Wimbledon.

Hide AdParkwood 6th form pupil Powell is up to 37th in the national senior women’s rankings for singles, 36th for women’s doubles and 45th woman for mixed doubles. She has also been invited to attend an England under-19 training camp in Milton Keynes this week.
