WICKERS DENIED AT THE DEATH

FAILURE TO cement a vital victory plunged Southwick into deeper relegation trouble at Old Barn Way on Saturday, especially when Littlehampton had despatched Pagham 4-0 on Thursday to pull away from the mire.

Champions Sidley already reduced to 10 men left it until the 89th minute to draw level with the struggling Wickers. Jason Finch picked up the ball in midfield, and played a defence-splitting pass to Kevin Rose. Rose beat the offside trap and slotted the ball past Dave Treadwell, who until that point had been largely unemployed in the Wickers goal.

Even in the five minutes of stoppage-time there was still an opportunity for both Tobi Hutchinson and Simon Funnell to be denied the chance of deservedly winning the points for Wickers.
