WICKERS FEEL THE HEMINGWAY WRATH

GORING USED their group Cup tie on the inaugural day of the competition to avenge on Sunday their league defeat at Southwick on Saturday. Having taken just two points for a six-wicket loss, Goring went back to the Green next day and won by 40 runs.

With wet pitches challenging all sides batting first on Saturday, while Chris Bird hung around, Rob Hemingway joined him at 18 for four and adopted the aggressive approach to the tune of 50 runs forced across and over the grassy Southwick outfield.

The pair put on 62 for the fifth wicket and Hemingway was the second-last out, but Goring's overall 109 was never enough in view of some inaccurate and inconsistent Goring bowling.

However, on Sunday, although again only two Goring batsmen made double figures, their 146, with Gareth Cook making 63 and Richard Stanley 22, allowed their bowlers more scope and Chris Geere took four for 20 and held two other catches.

Chippingdale drew disppointedly at home to South Bersted & Bognor in the league after dropping 10 catches but then needing 31 runs to win off five overs.

Faizal Khan's five for 56 and top-scoring 45 runs was their star effort at Portslade (255-6) on Sunday. Chipps had 37 overs in which to reply but the hitting of Mark Adams, Adrian Croft, Ollie Hall and Ben Stone arrived too late.
