WORTHING travelled to the third event of this summers championship at Whitgift School, Croydon, having played really well at the last event when its young team had begun to show a great deal of improvement.

Worthing was due to play three matches at this tournament but the late withdrawal of West London Penguin meant two longer games against Sevenoaks and Watford instead.

Match 1.

Worthing 14, Sevenoaks 0. (H/T 8-0)

This was a fine performance against a young but spirited opposition who always made things difficult Worthing.

The Worthing youngsters once again showed that they are beginning to progress both individually and collectively and it was pleasing to see that the passing and game awareness are now of a much higher standard.

The team defended well and the opposition only created a small number of chances.

It was the speed of Worthing's counter attacking that was the real difference between the teams and Worthing scored a number of goals as a result of quickly turning defence into attack.

Scorers; - Karen Chan 4, Laura Joseph 4, Ben Goddard 2, Joe Hazeldine 2, Charlie Jones 1, Olly Rainford 1.

Exclusion; - Charlie Jones.

Match 2.

Worthing 1, Watford 6. (H/T 1-0)

A really strange match that saw Worthing dominate the start of the game taking the lead through an excellent finish from Laura. We missed several other chances as we continued to dominate proceedings in the first half and perhaps this was the turning point of the game.

In the second half we started to make too many basic errors and Worthing was particularly guilty in giving away possession too easily on many occasions.

The poor second period might have been explained by an element of tiredness creeping in but the final score really does not give a real indication of the closeness of the match.

Although we were disappointed with the final result the team had played well in the first half and can take a great deal of satisfaction for how they competed against an older and more physical opposition.

Scorer; - Laura Joseph

Exclusion; - Joe Hazeldine.
