Airport display features local sport stars

A NEW display is on show at Gatwick Airport, featuring eight sports stars with strong connections to West Sussex.

It features current international sports stars, whose ambitions include competing at the London 2012 Games.

The display has life-sized images of the sports stars, and can be found at Gatwick’s South Terminal, outside central search 1 and in the arrivals hall.

The project is led by West Sussex - Ahead of the Game, in partnership with Gatwick Airport.

Four of the sports stars visited Gatwick recently to view the display for themselves: Mark Hawkins (handball), Tom Lord (beach volleyball), Ben Quilter (judo) and Emma Wiggs (sitting volleyball).

West Sussex County Council Cabinet Member for Environment and Economy Deborah Urquhart said: “This new display shows the wealth of sporting talent connected to West Sussex. By working in partnership with Gatwick Airport we are not only able to promote our sporting talent, but also some of the special landmarks in West Sussex for visitors to enjoy.”

Andrew McCallum, Director of Communications and External Affairs at Gatwick Airport, said: “We are very proud to profile our local sports stars here at Gatwick, and to be part of West Sussex - Ahead of the Game. The eight life-size images are being used on hoardings across the airport as we continue to deliver our £1 billion investment programme to modernise the facilities and improve the passenger experience.
