Spokesman Colin Jilks said: “Barry studied classical and jazz piano at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and plays regularly at jazz venues throughout the UK, including Ronnie Scotts, Pizza Express Dean Street and the 606 Club.

“Alan plays music that was considered radical 50 years ago, but infused with such passion and energy it now appears minted on the spot.

“Alan studied at Leeds College of Music before moving to London in 1980. He played with the Midnight Follies Orchestra and the Pasadena Roof Orchestra; then with Humphrey Lyttelton and John Dankworth, and for over ten years he featured with the BBC Big Band and Radio Orchestra before pursuing his freelance career.

“Alec, son of John Dankworth and Cleo Laine, is an award-winning jazz bassist and composer who, in addition to his own groups, has worked with an amazing list of artists including Van Morrison, Stephanne Grappelli, Abdullah Ibrahim and The Dave Brubeck Quartet. An evening with such persuasive jazz royalty, promises to be a dazzling occasion.”

Steyning Jazz Club meets at Fletcher’s Croft at 8.30pm. Doors open 7.45pm. Call Denis Cummings 01903 814017.
