A theatregoer got an unexpected birthday treat when she met Sir Cameron Mackintosh in Chichester last Thursday evening.

Sue Long and her friend Maria James asked for a photo with the Les Misérables star, who they spotted while waiting to see ‘Half a Sixpence’ at Chichester Festival Theatre.

Sue said Sir Cameron Mackintosh, who co-created the play they were about to see, was her ‘absolute musical theatre hero’.

She added: “As I was so starstruck, I completely forgot his name and got him mixed up with David Cameron and ended up addressing him as Mr Errrr...

“He was a complete gentleman, utterly kind and friendly and was happy to have his photo taken with us and wish me a happy birthday!”
