Illuminating Art, opened on Friday, October 23, taking spectators on a journey through the history of art – all on the walls of the historic Cathedral – itself a work of art and containing its own masterpieces.
As you walk through the ancient building you stop at various points to watch a whole range of works come into focus, from Baroque to Van Gogh.
There’s light and shadow, flowers, mesmerising swirling patterns, portraits and poetry from the likes of Wordsworth all included in the stunning display.
One section, with the backdrop of the stained glass window appearing through the film, is about the invention of photography, the steam age and the earliest experiments with moving pictures, as images unfold, shift and transform.
Accompanied by an original musical score, Illuminating Art was created by internationally acclaimed artistic collaboration Luxmuralis, the partnership of artist Peter Walker and composer David Harper.
The Cathedral sees its Sussex and runs for nine evenings until October 31.
It’s a show for all ages but especially art lovers and offers the chance to discover the Cathedral through fresh eyes, with something to surprise, intrigue and inspire everyone.
Rebecca Lewry-Gray, Visitor Experience Manager at Chichester Cathedral, said: "After months of planning and anticipation, it's wonderful to see the Cathedral transformed and to finally share this extraordinary experience with our visitors.
"We've been delighted by the response to advance ticket sales and would like to thank everyone who has already booked. As one of the Cathedral's principal fundraising events, the Light Experience plays an important role in helping us care for this remarkable building and ensure it continues to welcome and inspire future generations.”
