Festival fun hits Alfriston

MAYPOLE dancers, dogs and steam trains are on the agenda at Alfriston Festival.

A fun-packed programme full of exciting events has been planned from August 16 to August 25.

The festival has now been running for 40 years.

Isla Sitwell, chairman of the festival committee, said: 'It is a community led event which aims to provide fun and enjoyment for all.

'We raise money for local institutions and national charities.

'Last year 14,000 was distributed.'

Among the festival highlights will be a church service open to pet animals.

A dazzling medley of theatre and music pieces are also sure to impress festival goers.

Vintage cars, model trains, an arts exhibition and a dog show will bring a touch of class.

Sizzling sausages and other sumptuous treats are to be cooked up at the festival barbecue and dance

Brainbox teams are battling against each other during a family quiz.

Any frustrations can be vented out either through a wellie throwing competition or a tug-of-war contest.
