REVIEW: Blood Brothers

This year Blood Brothers celebrates its 25th anniversary and the show is still packing them in.

The reason is that not only has Willy Russell written a catchy score and memorable lyrics, he has also written a very good story.

I have seen many productions of the show and many Mrs Johnstones but the latest tour which this week stops off at Eastbourne's Congress Theatre is the best ever.

Linda Nolan is the definitive mother who chooses to give one of her twins away because she cannot cope with another two children.

Sean Jones (Mickey) and Simon Willmont (Eddie) are excellent, so is the Narrator (Keith Burns) and Vivienne Carlyle (Mrs Lyons).

All of them have played in Blood Brothers in the West End so Eastbourne has the best.

Andy Walmsley has designed some attractive sets and Bob Tomson and Bill Kenwright's direction have got the timing spot on.

This show is one of the longest running and most successful because people return to see it again and again.

Eastbourne fans won't be disappointed.

It richly deserved the standing ovation it got on Tuesday night.

Blood Brothers is at the Congress Theatre, Eastbourne until Saturday July 12.
