Rocking for the hospitals

THE countdown has begun for one of the largest gigs to hit Worthing for quite some time. And it's all in the name of charity.

In just under a month, seven of the finest bands in the area will be getting together for a huge concert at the Assembly Hall, Worthing, to help raise money and awareness for the KWASH Save Worthing and Southlands Hospital Appeal.

The line-up has been confirmed and the bands playing will be; The Accidentals, Essay for the Ordinary, Ettin, Atombuzz, Sandweaver, Mono and Tyler Rome.

Each week leading up to the event we will be looking a little closer at each of the bands on the bill, starting this week with the excellent Worthing-based, ska'“reggae-hip-hop'“funk-jazz fusion band called Ettin.

Ettin started life in 2005 and have racked up plenty of gigs, including support slots for the legendary reggae band Toots and The Maytals and New York-based ska band The Slackers.

The band consists of Ruby Taylor, 18, on guitar and vocals, Joe Miles, 19, on bass, Will Rathbone, 18, on saxophone and has recently welcomed 18-year old drummer Matt Townsend to the group.

They are now looking forward to a string of gigs over the coming months, including a tour planned for this August.
