With the help of local historian Chris Hare, the Sidney Walter Centre has just produced a new brochure, full of ideas to fill the winter months – including some unusual activities to inspire people to try something a bit different.
Chris said: "You could stay in watching television, or surfing the internet, or you could get yourself down to the Sidney Walter Centre, in Sussex Road, Worthing, where a host of exciting activities are taking place. There is also a heritage section that looks at the history of the houses close to the Sid and the fascinating stories of the people who once lived there. The full colour brochure is free and available from the Sid and Worthing Library."
Through our gallery of pictures, provided by Sam Hare, you can get a flavour of some of the classes available right now. There is also a popular and modern gym. For all the details, pick up one of the free brochures.

5. Pilates and yoga
Pilates with Lucy Khan and Yyoga with Kate Wright are run on Monday evenings, Tuesday and Friday mornings. The perfect way to unwind from a stressful world. Photo: Sam Hare

6. Poi with Kate Wright
Here is an activity for those looking for something a bit different. A poi is a tethered weight that is swung rhythmically by performers. A really wonderful way to chill out and improve coordination. Classes are Thursday evenings. Photo: Sam Hare

7. Sword Flow with Matt Dumbleton
Another activity that is out of the ordinary. Matt teaches the techniques for learning this captivating performance, which he describes as being 'like meditation with swords'. Although, not real swords! Classes are Thursday evenings. Photo: Sam Hare

8. Short Mat Bowls
On cold wet days, few people are likely to be tempted on to a bowling green but the Sidney Walter Centre offers indoors, short-mat bowls. It is so good that centre manager Doreen Read is often seen rolling a well-aimed bowl on the green baize! Sessions are Thursday afternoons. Photo: Sam Hare
