Worthing film festival welcomes world screen stars

FILMS starring cinematic legends will be screened in the UK for the first time during this month's End of the Pier international film festival in Worthing.

Oscar-winner Christopher Walken and nominees Brenda Blethyn and Naomi Watts all star in Undertaking Betty, which will make its UK screen debut at The Ritz cinema on May 1, at 7pm.

And screen luminaries such as Sir Derek Jacobi, Bill Paterson and Denise van Outen star in some of the many short films which will be shown during the week-long event.

The festival will also feature the world premieres of UK productions Ambleton Delight, which was filmed near Lewes and stars Bryan Capron, and Photoshoot, starring Eastenders star John Altman.

The festival, which runs from April 24 until May 2, will also feature the documentary The Day After Peace, starring Jude Law and Angelina Jolie.

The festival's international flavour comes from such features as Russian comedy Don't Think About White Monkeys, French drama Echoes and Spanish thriller Versus.

And local independent directors, including Northbrook College students and older hands from the South Downs Video and Film Makers group, will see their work screened in a special Made in Worthing day on Monday, April 27.

Ambleton Delight will be the first feature film to be financially supported by the festival's development fund, which aims to help independent film-makers distribute and screen their work.
