HDIBC remembers founder member with successful bowls competition

Heather Grant was a founder member of HDIBC, back in 1995. Her partner, Geoff Kentish, organises an annual event in her memory, to particularly remember how much Heather loved coaching and introducing new members to Bowls.

As well as being a founder member, Heather was also the First Ladies' Captain of the Club, the First Lady President, as well as holding many other posts over a number of years, before sadly her death during the Covid epidemic.

The Bowls Club was buzzing on Easter Saturday, with 48 bowlers (many of them fairly new members) competing for the Heather Grant Trophy. The afternoon started with a 'Spider' - with all of the bowlers at the same time sending their one bowl to the centre of the rink to try and be nearest the jack - with Chris Adamson being the nearest and being presented with a bottle of 'bubbly' for doing so!

This was followed by the main event - a Triples competition, with each team playing 3 games against different opposition. The twist here was that each player had to take a turn at playing Lead, Second or Skip - so not always playing to peoples' strengths! At the end of the afternoon, there was actually a draw with two teams scoring exactly the same number of points...... but the eventual winners were Jim Davis, Ric Davey and Jeanne Coker. Runners up were Pete Mitchell, Ray Neal and Joice Robins.

It was and enjoyable and successful afternoon at the Club, so well organised by Geoff and a chance to remember an important member in the history of HDIBC.
