In pictures: Keeping alive the Hastings Good Friday marbles tradition

People gathered on Winkle Island in Hastings Old Town on Good Friday to take part in the annual marbles competition.

Playing marbles on Good Friday is a long-standing Sussex tradition which goes back to the 16th century, with Sussex town Tinsley Green hosting the annual World Marbles Championship at the Greyhound pub since 1932.

In Hastings it is organised each year by Hastings Bonfire Society and this year’s event attracted a good number of contestants despite the grey and damp weather.
