The A280 Long Furlong is often closed due to accidents and improving it would make it safer. We haven’t seen any costings for why this route is not being considered. Highways England commissioned a Canadian Property services company – Parsons Brinkerhoff – to investigate and provide a feasibility report on solutions with most value for money for road improvements along the A27 corridor. For Worthing, Sompting and Lancing they have come up with three options, all along the present road, from making changes to the three pinch points of Offington Roundabout, Grove Lodge and Lyons Farm, to a full blown dual carriageway along the entire route. Whether this is a realistic option or not, it remains on the list of options to be chosen which is deeply worrying. A relief road or proper bypass is not being considered. We’re asking Highways England to look at this relief road option now. If you don’t want to see Worthing severed in two by dualling the existing A27, you can do something.
