Emergency services rushed to the scene in the westbound carriageway after the blaze broke out at about 5.15pm.

A fire engine from Eastbourne attended, and a passing ambulance also stopped at the scene but it is understood it was not needed.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said crews used one hose reel jet to tackle the flames.

The road was closed for some time as the incident was dealt with.
