CHURCH SERVICES: Church of St Andrew and St Mary the Virgin, Sunday 10am the Bishop of Lewes, The Right Reverend Richard Jackson, will take the Family Service with Communion. 5.30pm Evening Prayer. Bishop Richard is responsible for appointing our new Priest in Charge and during refreshments, after the service, there will be an opportunity to talk to him about the future of our parish.

FLETCHING SINGERS: The singers meet on Tuesday at 7.45pm.

MARTIAL ARTS: Kobudo Martial Arts meet on Thursday at 5pm.

AGM: The Friends of Fletching Church will be holding their AGM in the church on Tuesday May 10 at 7pm. As well as electing officers and approving our accounts, it will also be an opportunity (over a glass of wine) to hear about what we have achieved over the last year and our future plans, so do please come along. 100 YEARS AGO: Sussex Express 5 May 1916. Training Women for Farm Work. An experimental scheme for the training of women in agriculture has been instituted by the Bedfordshire Education Committee. The idea is to fit women to perform the lighter operations in farm work, and it pointed out that no previous experience is necessary.

The pupil must undertake to remain on an approved farm for at least eight weeks, the first four of which will be considered a period of instruction, the pupil receiving a maintenance grant of 10s weekly from the committee. During the second four weeks she will be paid 15s weekly by the farmer, and at the end of the period she can make her own arrangements as to future employment.
