Actress cuts ribbon to open Rustington care home’s £1m revamp

Amanda, who followed her parents Dorothy Tutin and Derek Waring into an acting career, is now also a passionate advocate for treating the elderly with dignity, and spoke on the theme when she was the special guest at the ceremony at Rustington Hall, in Station Road.

She cut a ribbon to declare the work completed and congratulated all those involved in the scheme, which has provided the nursing and care home with an extended communal lounge, veranda, lift, kitchen, reception and additional car parking, together with a new sensory garden for the 52 elderly residents to enjoy.

The project was highly commended by the Sussex Heritage Trust in its recent 2012 awards.

Sue Holland, chairman of the charity which runs the hall, welcomed more than 100 guests, included Rustington’s MP, Sir Peter Bottomley.

Established in 1948, the charity provides residential nursing and care and also sheltered independent living accommodation for the elderly, as well as family housing in the community.
