Chesham House Community Centre in South Street — a charity which dates back to the 1950s – will reopen its doors on Monday (August 15).
East Worthing and Shoreham MP Tim Loughton, who has fervently a campaign to keep the centre open, wrote on social media: “Great news – Chesham House is due to open its doors again on Monday and there will be a formal reopening later next month.

In February, the Royal Voluntary Service (RVS) announced plans to sell the community hub. The RVS made this decision after reviewing the ‘feasibility and costs’ of reopening the centre, following the Covid pandemic.
After the decision was met with anger and sadness, RVS made a quick U-turn, suspending proceedings towards the sale of the building.
Sam Ward OBE, deputy CEO of Royal Voluntary Service, said that, ‘on a practical level’, there had been pledges of support for the redevelopment of the flats above Chesham House, ‘which will remove a considerable cost-burden’.
