Pret A Manger has announced plans to open up in a prominent city centre shop.

The coffee giant has been granted permission to open its doors in the former Gerry Weber site in East Street this week. The approval will see Pret’s return to East Street after closing in 2020 due to pressures of the pandemic. Greggs has since opened in its place, after shutting its North Street store earlier this year.

A fresh air and extraction vents will be built in the unit, a kitchen will be built, as well as seating and a till area. The application also allows for the shop front to be repainted grey.

The property is currently being listed with Fludes with an annual rent cost of £57,500.

The Chichester Society and the Chichester Conservation Area Advisory Committee both gave no objection to the plans.

Pret A Manger will join a number of other coffee shops in the city centre.
