Major Eastbourne business to relocate to Denmark

One of Eastbourne’s major businesses is planning to relocate overseas.

Staff at Alfa Laval, a pump manufacturer based in Birch Road employing more than 85 people, were told of the plans yesterday (Tuesday) to relocate part of the business to Kolding in Denmark.

The intention, said the Swedish owned company, is to move all activities from Eastbourne to Scandinavia by the start of 2023.

Unions representing staff at the factory have been told of the impending move and consultations are under way.

A spokesperson at Alfa Laval said, “We have announced intentions to expand our global supply chain and optimise our global footprint to meet the strategic targets of increased competitiveness in four hubs – Americas, EU, China, and India.

“The footprint optimisation includes intentions to relocate all activities from Eastbourne to Kolding in Denmark.”

The spokesperson said the aim was to start relocation plans in the second quarter of 2022 with it implemented in the first quarter of the following year.

The spokesperson said, “As the consultations are not yet concluded, we cannot comment further.

“Alfa Laval is committed to our employees and will do our utmost to minimise the impact these changes may cause. We continuously assess our business and the location of our sites to improve and optimise if needed, all with the aim of advancing better for our customers, people and planet.”
