Storm Austen: Highdown Gardens closed amid yellow weather warning

Storm Austen – the first named storm of the season – has hit Sussex overnight, bringing strong winds and rain.

As wind speeds of up to 30mph are forecast for the coast, Highdown Gardens has announced it will be closed for the day ‘to help keep our visitors, staff and volunteers safe’.

A spokesperson for the attraction said: “We know how much you love spending time in our beautiful gardens, but sometimes nature has other plans!

“We look forward to welcoming you back soon for more beautiful blooms and peaceful moments on Highdown Hill.

“Thanks for your understanding, take care, and stay safe in the windy weather.”
