Portsmouth Water to hold drop-in events on new Havant pipelines

Portsmouth Water is holding two community drop-in sessions over November to discuss the Havant Thicket Reservoir Project, encouraging residents to ask questions, meet the team and share concerns.

The drop-in events will take place at Havant Rugby Club on Wednesday (November 11) and Leigh Park Centre on Wednesday (November 18), both running from 5pm to 8pm. They are free to attend and there is no need to book.

The main focus of these sessions will be the new pipelines being built in Havant as part of the Havant Thicket Reservoir Project. Two parallel pipelines are being constructed, connecting Bedhampton Springs to the Havant Thicket Reservoir site. They will run between Havant Rugby Club and St Thomas More School, through Ellisfield Road, and between Front Lawn Recreation Ground and Leigh Park.

Bob Taylor, chief executive officer at Portsmouth Water, said: “We’re a local company, and going out and speaking to our customers face-to-face is incredibly important to us.

“In Havant, we’re building the new Havant Thicket Reservoir, the first major new UK reservoir in more than 30 years. To fill the reservoir and take water out when it’s needed, we’re also installing new pipelines.”

He explained that the water company has been working closely with local communities, aiming to minimise disruption where possible. The works are set to use micro-tunnelling techniques to avoid digging up roads and pavements.

“We know people will have questions as this work progresses, and we’re committed to keeping local communities informed,” he said. “These drop-in events are a chance to come and speak to us directly, whether you want to ask about the pipelines, the reservoir itself or something else.”
