School closures in Mid Sussex on Thursday

A large number of schools are due to either close or be partially closed this Thursday (October 17) due to a strike by teachers over pay, pensions and working conditions.

The unions involved are the National Union of Teachers (NUT) and the National Association of Schoolmasters Union of Women Teachers (NASUWT).

Primary and junior schools that are listed on West Sussex County Council’s website as being either closed or partially closed in Mid Sussex on Thursday are: Bolnore, Southway, Twineham, Birchwood Grove, Albourne, London Mead and Windmills Junior School. Some classes at St Paul’s Catholic College are also due to close.

Some schools in East Sussex will also be affected. Plumpton primary school will be partially closed and Ditchling primary school has an inset day.

The action is the result of a national dispute between the Government and the teaching unions and is outside the control of local education authorities.
