Sheddingdean Community Primary School wins contest to name new streets at Abbeville Park development in Burgess Hill

Abbeville Park, which comprises 307 homes, is being delivered by ilke Homes and Places for People who ran the competition in summer to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee.

The winning names chosen by Burgess Hill Town Council are: Crown Way, Corgi Lane, Commonwealth Avenue, Platinum Way, Royalty Road, Celebration Lane, Red Arrow Road and Windsor Grove.

Mrs Hannah Riley, headteacher at Sheddingdean Primary said: “The children have loved being part of this competition and are very proud to have played a part in naming the new streets.”

Burgess Hill town mayor Peter Chapman gave out the prizes, which included £20 WHSmith vouchers and a £500 donation to the school.

The mayor said: "It was such a nice idea of ilke Homes and Places for People to offer the pupils of Sheddingdean Primary School the chance to name the roads in the new development. Who wouldn’t want to live in Corgi Lane!

“It was really special to be able to visit the school and hand out the prizes to the unsuspecting winners, they were all so thrilled. The land being used for the development has been disused for many years so it’s great to see this being turned into a new community.”

Abbeville Park was granted planning approval by Mid Sussex Council in May. Once complete it will offer apartments and a mix of two, three and four-bedroom properties. All the homes will be affordable for rent and for sale through Shared Ownership.
