Family-owned Indian restaurant celebrates 40 years in Worthing with special dine-in offer

Family-owned Indian restaurant Shafiques is celebrating 40 years in Worthing with a special 25 per cent off dine in offer.

Co-owner Sami Uddin said there had been good times and tough ones over the years but the family was grateful to the loyal customers who had kept the restaurant going.

Shafiques was launched in Goring Road in 1986 with a simple purpose – to create a place that felt like home. It followed the success of the first venture, Curryland takeaway, in Tarring Road, and an extension was later added to the restaurant to increase seating capacity.

Sami said: “For 40 years, our Bangladeshi restaurant has welcomed families, friends and neighbours, serving three generations of guests who have shared their milestones and everyday moments with us.

“From the beginning, we believed that being part of a community means giving back. Over the years, we have proudly sponsored local schools, colleges and sports clubs, because supporting young people and local initiatives has always mattered more to us than just making money.

“At this important milestone, we want to pause, reflect, and say a heartfelt thank you to all our customers. Whether you have visited Shafiques once or dined with us for decades, please know that your support has meant the world to us.

“Your loyalty has helped countless people over the past 40 years – from team members supporting their families to schools that were able to compete because they finally had enough shirts.

“We are, and always have been, one community. As every business does, we have faced good times and difficult ones, but what keeps us going is the privilege of serving you. We hope to continue welcoming you, and new generations, even through the hardest of times. You are our family, and we could not have done any of this without you.”

The offer of 25 per cent off the food bill is available on Mondays and Tuesdays, April 20, 21, 27 and 28. To qualify, you must book a table at the Goring Road restaurant and spend a minimum of £20 per head.

Sami said: “For 40 years, our family has tried to serve you the very best South Asian food. For 40 years, you have made that possible. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.

“There have been good times and tough ones, with many bumps still to come. But what makes us open our doors every single day is knowing we are serving you. Your smile, your 'thank you' is what keeps us going.”

The company behind the restaurant, Kazitula Limited, went into liquidation in April 2017 and the bankruptcy triggered an investigation by the Insolvency Service. It was found that inaccurate tax returns had been filed for nearly seven years, between April 2010 and January 2017.

Sami pointed out that although the previous company was liquidated and fined, there had been subsequent appeals.

A late appeal was denied in August 2023 but the Upper Tribunal at Pump Court Tax Chambers in August 2025 held that the decision in Uddin v HMRC in 2023 misstated the law. The decision significantly changes the principles relevant to making late appeals to the First-Tier Tribunal outside the applicable statutory time limit.
