Lloyd Cole visits arts centre

Shoreham’s Ropetackle Arts Centre has secured a gig from Lloyd Cole on Saturday, July 14.

Ropetackle spokesman Ben Parker said: “We’ve been trying to trying to book Lloyd Cole pretty much from the day we opened, as he’s the perfect fit for Ropetackle and our audiences.

“Lloyd Cole and the Commotions loomed large on the UK’s music landscape throughout the 80s and early 90s, with Cole rightly recognised as one of the best songwriters of his time (or of anytime, such is quality of his work).

“Rattlesnakes, from 1984, is a simply magnificent album and a firm Ropetackle staff favourite. Lloyd Cole is still a wonderful live artist, although for 2012 he’s stripped things back to basics performing acoustic versions or remodelled folk interpretations of songs from across his wonderful back catalogue. This should be a wonderful night.

“Former frontman of The Commotions, Lloyd Cole has been a prolific solo performer for 21 years, winning over loyal fans with his brand of articulate and acute songwriting. His current live shows are characterised by his reworking of older material into simpler folk – inspired numbers and his extensive interaction with his audience. Some songs are delivered in more of a spoken world style with stories showing a healthy amount of humour and self-depreciation.”

Starts 8pm Tickets £20. Box office: 01273 464440 or www.ropetacklecentre.co.uk.
