Ashburnham & Penhurst WI are holding their annual Christmas Fayre tomorrow, Saturday, December 7, at the village hall from 10.00am – 1.00pm. There will be local produce, seasonal stalls, raffle, WI refreshments and much more.

Christmas Curry-Oke Party - What’s that??? A Christmas Party with a Twist! Tomorrow, Saturday December 7, 7.30pm. Bring your friends & family to the festively decorated Village Hall to enjoy an Indian Feast made by skilled village cooks, spiced up with a bit of non compulsory festive karaoke. Not all the food will be hot hot hot but some will...there will be a variety of delicious main and side dishes and relishes. Early booking advisable, Book a table for you and your friends or just for you on the friendly main table. Please let us know then if a non-spicy meal is required. 2m@1 are meeting on December 9, 1pm at Ashburnham Church Hall, when they will be holding their Christmas Party. They are also meeting on January 13 where Rhod Jones will give a talk entitled ‘The Oxo Story’.

The tradition of Carols at the Ash Tree Inn will be December 16, 7pm. All are welcome to go and join in.

The next Coffee Morning is on Monday, December 16 in the Church Hall, Ashburnham Place 10.30am - 12pm. January dates are 6 & 20. You are welcome to go along for a good friendly chat. For further information, please contact Tina on 01424 843728.

The next Village Lunch is on December 18, at Penhurst Retreat Centre. Lunch is cooked every month for any older residents in our villages who would like a bit of company and a delicious meal. The East Sussex County Council Mobile Library service will next be in Ashburnham (by the chapel) on Thursday December 19, 9.50am - 10.10am.

Carol Singing around the village of Ashburnham will be on December 20 starting at 6pm, meeting at the Chapel. Sing at houses between Ponts Green and Lakehurst Lane. Mince pies and mulled wine around 7.30pm. Festive transport provided. Contact Nicky 01424 892474 for more information.

Ashburnham & Penhurst WI are meeting on Monday January 20, 7.30pm at the Village Hall. Tony Harris, professional actor and experienced speaker, will be joining them to talk about his life as Henry VIII. Hired as the resident Henry at Hampton Court Palace, Tony has a fund of stories about his time there. But when he dons the famous costume, Henry comes alive to tell us about his life, his wives, and what it was really like at the Tudor court. The evening will include refreshments and a raffle. WI members free, visitors £2. No need to book – just go along!

Ashburnham Chapel are holding a coffee morning on December 23, January 27, 10.30am-12pm. All are welcome to join them.

The Ashburnham and Penhurst Gardening Club are not meeting during December. Their next meeting will take place on January 27 at Ashburnham Church Hall, 7.30pm, where they will look at ‘Bygone gardening’. The Evening Book Group are not meeting during December. Their next meeting will be on Tuesday January 28, 8pm at Ashburnham Place. They will be will be reading “Uncommon Reader” by Alan Bennett. The Afternoon Book Group are not eeting during December. They next get together on January 31 at 2pm.
