Laurence, who has lived in Newhaven for five years, said: 'I moved here after six months in Mexico and Guatemala, exploring the temples of the Mayans whom I feel a connection with.

'I started The 21st Century Book of the Dead, six years ago and it has led me to clarify my awareness of how the reality of the eternal soul fits with the modern world. I now am able to say I see the world and humanity as evolving despite the darkness that is reported daily.'

He added: 'The book is structured and layered in such a way as to prime your mind and feelings with the tools to step into the consciousness which underlies the surface of what is generally perceived as normal existence.'

To mark the publication of his book at the weekend Laurence invited people for a meal at Snow in Bridge Street, a party at Newhaven Fort and Sunday afternoon tea at his South Street home.
