NAS committee member Gemma Cook, said: “We really appreciate the funding from Sussex Police. All the families in our group have at least one child with autism.

“Many of these parents can feel isolated, as their children have high levels of anxiety, lack of understanding, inability to queue or wait and have sensory issues.

“As a consequence many find it easier to stay at home and avoid public places, where they feel self-conscious.

“To help overcome this the Bexhill and Hastings Group organises family activities in the school holidays, exclusively hiring venues and holding a Christmas party in Bexhill.”

The donation comes from the Police Property Act Fund (PPAF), made up of monies received by the police from property confiscated by order of the court and then sold.

Police Constable Jason Kemp said: “I am really happy to support the National Autistic Society.

“It’s great to see the Police Property Act Fund assisting these local young people and it’s pleasing to learn that they have so much to look forward to.”
