Bonfire season toend with a bang

The bonfire marks its 24th year and is welcoming bonfire societies from all over Sussex to take part in a procession of flaming torches.

The village has a well deserved reputation for it’s effigies and last year lampooned unpopular Education Minister Michael Gove.

There is a road closure in place between 6pm – 10pm through the High Street and Station Road and George Hill procession route.

The procession sets off from the station car park at 7.15pm and follows a route via Station Road and the High Street to the fire site on the recreation ground.

The fire will be lit at 8.15pm followed by a spectacular fireworks display at 8.30pm.

The Robertsbridge Society is recognisable for its hooded monk costumes and eye-catching Roman centurions.

There will be a street collection on the night with money raised going to good community causes.

Those attending should listen to the marshals and adhere to their instructions. Do not pick up spent torches, as the torch carts will follow the procession and remove them.

No fireworks are allowed to be discharged in the street as this is an offence.

Earlier in the day is a Guy Competition with judging on the recreation ground at 1.10pm.
