Pupils at St Mary's CofE (Aided) Primary School were delighted as the famous children's author Julia Donaldson came to visit.

The popular and well-known author spent time with the Year Two children at the Pulborough based school, as she gave them a whistle stop tour through some of her most famous titles.

The children dressed up as characters from The Gruffalo, What the Ladybird Heard, Room on a Broom and Stick Man.

The children were captured in the moment as she recited these books by heart and the children joined in, acting the stories in costume.

Julia’s husband Malcolm further enriched the experience with his rendition of her songs on the guitar.

After her workshops with the children, staff from Steyning Bookshop were on hand supplying books which parents and pupils were able to buy and get signed by this renowned author.

Samantha Copus said: “It was a truly magical day that summarised so much about the value of literature and language on children and their writing.”
