Conservation schemes to protect River Arun

CONSERVATION schemes to protect the River Arun are being launched next month.

The Arun and Western Streams Catchment Plan and Arun and Rother Connections (ARC) are being launched on Thursday, February 6, at Lodge Hill near Pulborough.

Consultation found the top concerns for people in the Arun and Western Streams Catchment areas include access to the countryside, the lack of fish in local rivers and finding ways to help them thrive.

Those consulted also want joining up measures to help wildlife, improve rivers, stop loss of habitats, and deal with pollution, which affects the quality of water.

The project is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, which provided £1.1m.

The partners are the RSPB, Natural England, the Arun and Rother Rivers Trust, West Sussex County Council, the Environment Agency, the Sussex Wildlife Trust, and the Sussex Downs National Park Authority.
