Man, 45, jailed for burglary 'spree' in East Sussex

A man has been jailed following a burglary ‘spree’ in East Sussex.

Anthony Bowles, 45, of no fixed address, was jailed for four years and six months after burgling several addresses in Lewes and Uckfield, according to Sussex Police.

A spokesperson for the force said: “The week-long spree between April 18 and 23 saw Bowles burgle two addresses, attempt to burgle another address, and steal a car which he drove to a service station to buy alcohol, cigarettes and food using a stolen bank card.

“Bowles was arrested on April 23 within hours of his final break in at an address in Eastbourne Road, Uckfield. Following rapid investigations, officers were able to link Bowles to his other offences.

“Bowles was charged the next day with two counts of burglary, attempted burglary, theft of a motor vehicle, fraud by false representation, driving without a licence and driving without insurance.

“He appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court and was remanded into custody ahead of his trial. On October 19 at Hove Crown Court, Bowles was found guilty of the same offences by a jury.”

Detective Sergeant Jake O’Reilly added: “I'd like to thank the victims, witnesses, and members of the public who assisted our investigation and ensured that Bowles was brought to justice for his offending.

“This conviction demonstrates that those who commit burglary in Sussex can expect to be identified, arrested, and brought before the courts.

“We will continue to use any investigative opportunity available to target offenders, protect residents, and ensure victims receive the justice they deserve."
