Sussex Police and partners complete festive domestic abuse safeguarding operation
Sussex Police and partners have completed its festive domestic abuse safeguarding operation, the force has confirmed.
A spokesperson for Sussex Police said: “While Christmas is a time of joy and celebration for many people, for some it brings abuse, violence and controlling behaviour.

“Every year at Christmas – and other times that can see spikes in domestic abuse, such as major sporting events – Sussex Police and partners embark on Operation Hope.
“Operation Hope involves proactive visits to people in Sussex identified at being at the highest risk of domestic abuse, to make sure they are safe and to offer safeguarding advice or support.
“Including partners helps with signposting victims towards support services outside of the police, and can help with engaging with some people who may feel less comfortable speaking to police officers.
“Over several weeks leading up to Christmas, Sussex Police and its partners visited 35 properties across the county.
“Almost 80% of the victims spoken to were happy to engage with the police and 40% shared offences or safeguarding concerns that had not previously been disclosed.
“Feedback from the visits showed 83% of those visited felt it was beneficial.”
Detective Chief Inspector Kelly Lewis said: “Our message to victims of domestic abuse is this – you are not alone. We are here for you, and our community partners are alongside us to make sure you receive the support you deserve.
“Operation Hope may cover the festive period, but we work tirelessly all-year-round to protect victims and make sure offenders face justice for their actions. Preparations are already underway for the football World Cup in the summer.
“Latest figures show Sussex Police has one of the highest levels in the country of victims supporting investigations through to their conclusion. That is in part due to their faith in us to bring a positive outcome and offer that important wraparound care.
“If you or someone you know is a victim of domestic violence, please report it to the police online, via 101 or by dialling 999 in an emergency.
“We also have discreet reporting mechanisms, which you can find here Report domestic abuse | Sussex Police
“If you have concerns around a new partner, or the new partner of someone you know, you can request information on their criminal history through Clare’s Law. Apply here Clare's Law - Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme (DVDS) | Sussex Police”
Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner Katy Bourne said: “Operation Hope provides vital support to victims of domestic abuse throughout the year and particularly during peak periods when, tragically, incidents of abuse increase.
“I am delighted to financially support the vital specialist services who provide wrap‑around care for those reporting and fleeing domestic abuse.
“Once again, over the Christmas period, those forced to leave their homes to escape abuse have been helped with small but meaningful care packages providing comfort and reassurance during their darkest hours.
“I extend my gratitude to DCI Lewis and her team for their unwavering commitment to tackling this abhorrent crime and supporting those affected by it.”
