DEATH BY DEMOLITION? FEARS AS OLD PARISH FACES DEVELOPMENT

OLD Rustington is vanishing because of new flat developments in the village, say both the chairmen of the residents' and heritage associations.

Residents' association chairman Auriel Wakeling said that currently there are four houses in Woodlands which could be demolished, with a view to 24 apartments being built in their place. A planning application was considered this week by Rustington Parish Council's planning committee.

Mrs Wakeling fears this development will cause overcrowding saying: "It's a narrow road and there are always cars parked on at least one side.

"With four family houses going and probably 24 apartments going up it's going to be even worse."
