Details of Horsham’s Remembrance Sunday service announced

The details for this year’s Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday events in Horsham were announced by the council yesterday (Monday October 14).

A Remembrance Sunday service will be held at the War Memorial in the Carfax, on Sunday November 10 starting at 10.50am, and will be led by Canon Guy Bridgewater, the vicar of Horsham.

A church service follows at the Parish Church of St Mary The Virgin in The Causeway, to which everyone is invited.

A number of Remembrance Sunday services take place throughout the Horsham district on this day.

Meanwhile the Horsham branch of the Royal British Legion (RBL) will holds a short ceremony at the War Memorial on Monday November 11 for those wishing to pay their respects on Armistice Day at 11am.

St Mary’s CE Primary School will bring 120 pupils from its junior section to the War Memorial on 11 November to witness this.

On Sunday the service will begin with the hymn ‘O God Our Help in Ages Past’, followed by the Last Post, and then the Exhortation. The two minute silence will then start at 11am.

The chairman of Horsham District Council Philip Circus will then lead the wreath laying on behalf of the people of the Horsham district.

He will be followed by David Copestake, chairman of the Royal British Legion Horsham Branch and Horsham MP Francis Maude will lay the third wreath.

Representatives of the armed services and youth organisations will then lay their wreaths, each as a mark of solemn respect.

When the last wreath has been laid, the parade marshall will call the parade to attention and one verse of the national anthem will be sung.

A blessing will mark the end of the service at the War Memorial.
