Eastergate pupils enjoy story event

Some 70 students from Eastergate CoE Primary School came into school after hours for storytime.

The event, held last Thursday, gave staff, pupils and their parents the chance to enjoy reading together.

Poppy Longland, 9, said: “It was really good to be able to come into school for story time and read with the teachers and parents. My favourite books are the Winnie and the Witch.”

The event was organised by teacher Sarah Erskine and was part of the school’s celebration of book week. “It has been a great success. It is brilliant to see children, parents and staff reading together,” she said.

“It is great to see so many children coming back into school to take part.

Reading is extremely important and it is good to see the children having fun and interacting with each other while they are reading.”

Throughout the one hour session, children could delve into a number of different books, with audio books also available.

Phillip Marshall enjoyed reading The Selfish Crocodile with his five-year-old daughter Grace.

He said: “The story time was a really good idea. It is great that parents can be involved as well. Getting children reading at a young age is very important.

“It is also good to be able to support the school and if they have anything like this again we would come along.”
