Water outage hits Peacehaven homes: supplies restored after team isolates ‘significant burst’ on water main
A water outage hit homes in Peacehaven on the morning of Tuesday, September 15.
South East Water confirmed at about 9am that a leak had been reported at Collingwood Close.
The map at aqualerter.southeastwater.co.uk showed the leak was affecting homes in surrounding roads, including Pelham Rise and part of Roderick Avenue.
The water supplier initially said at 6.35am: “We're really sorry to those of you who have no water or low water pressure. We are looking into the cause as a priority. Please be assured that we are working as quickly as possible to get your supply back up and running as soon as we can.”

A South East Water spokesperson then sent this newspaper an update at about 11am.
They said: “We’re very sorry to our customers in the Peacehaven area who have experienced low pressures or loss of supply this morning as a result of a significant burst on the water main at the junction of Pelham Road and Collingwood Close.
“Our team has already identified the issue and has isolated the burst, limiting the impact to the wider Peacehaven area. We are also assessing the possibility of an alternate supply for the duration of the repair to provide water for any customers impacted.
“The repair will require us to work in the road, and therefore traffic lights will be installed while we carry out this work as quickly and safely as possible.”

In a 1.45pm update, a spokesperson said all customers’ water supplies had been restored in the Peacehaven area.
The spokesperson said: “We are using a temporary overland pipe to keep customers in supply while the repair takes place. We also have a water tanker in the area as a precaution.”
They said the repair will still require traffic lights to be installed while the work is carried out. But they continued: “These lights will be removed once we have returned the road to a safe and drivable condition.
“We’d like to thank everyone who takes the time to report leaks to us – it really does help us to find and fix problems on our network. If anyone spots a leak, it can be reported to us through our online AquAlerter platform: southeastwater.co.uk.”
