Gatwick Airport impacted by water supply issue as residents report widespread outage

Residents in Horley and the wider Gatwick area have reported losing their water supply, with the airport affected by the disruption.

London Gatwick Airport confirmed a ‘water issue’ in the Horley area is ‘causing disruption at the airport this morning’ (Sunday, July 26).

A post on social media, at 11.25am, read: “The problem is affecting water supply in both terminals and is currently under investigation.

“Bottled water is being made available to passengers and staff across the airport and other contingency measures are being put in place to ensure the welfare of our passengers.

“We will provide further updates and apologise for any inconvenience to passengers.”

An update at 1.45pm read: “A local water supply issue is continuing to cause disruption. There is currently no water supply in either terminal.

“Our staff are on hand to support passengers and provide assistance where needed, some restaurant partners have opened to provide additional seating.

“We apologise for the inconvenience caused and are working closely with @SESWater to restore the supply as quickly as possible.”

SES Water – which serves customers in Surrey, West Sussex, Kent and south London – said on Sunday morning that customers in TN8, TN11 and parts of RH1 were experiencing low water pressure or a loss of supply. This was following an issue at its Bough Beech Water Treatment Works.

Residents in the RH6 postcode district have also reported being without water or experiencing low pressure.

RH6 primarily covers Horley and Gatwick Airport, and extends into parts of the Reigate and Banstead, Crawley and Mole Valley local authority areas.

A spokesperson for SES Water told Sussex World: “Due to a number of complications caused by power outage at our Bough Beech Water Treatment Works, some customers are experiencing low water pressure or a temporary loss of supply.

“We are working to overcome those complications and return the treatment works to supply as quickly as we can.

“Gatwick Airport is being affected but we are working with them while our teams work to restore normal service as quickly as possible.

“We thank customers and our partners at Gatwick Airport for their patience.”.

The company said it was delivering bottled water to its most vulnerable customers on its priority services register, while teams worked to restore supplies.

An update at 1.40pm read: “We are pleased to provide an update that our Bough Beech water treatment works are back up and running, we now need to treat the water before returning services to normal as quickly as we possibly can.

“We thank customers and our partners at Gatwick Airport for their patience.”

SES Water responded to several customers, saying it would investigate their reports and arrange for the appropriate team member to contact them.

The company has apologised to customers affected by the disruption and said its teams are working to return water supplies to normal.
