Councillor urges public to support Littlehampton Bonfire Society after 2026 bonfire celebrations postponed due to Storm Austen in Sussex
An Arun District Councillor has urged the public to support Littlehampton Bonfire Society after it had to postpone and scale back its bonfire night due to bad weather.
The Littlehampton Bonfire Celebrations 2026 were supposed to take place on the evening of Saturday, October 24, but have had to be delayed following the arrival of Storm Austen in Sussex.
A message posted to the group’s Facebook page said: “Littlehampton Bonfire Celebrations 2026 will NOT take place on Saturday 24th October 2026. However, we have come up with an alternative plan!”
It said: “Sunday 25th October 2026 we see a scaled back event which will feature the lighting of our bonfire, grand fireworks display and family funfair.”
Arun District Councillor Billy Blanchard-Cooper (Beach ward) said on Facebook on Saturday: “I was saddened to hear that the Littlehampton Bonfire Society event will not be going ahead tonight due to the adverse weather conditions, but pleased to hear they have made alternative arrangements for Sunday. I know how hard they have worked so please lend your support.
“So much hard work goes on behind the scenes, and a huge thank you goes to the organisers, volunteers and everyone involved.
“The society will have various costs from cancellations, and I'm sure will welcome donations if you would like to make one, they have a just giving link on their page or donations can be dropped off at David O Jones sports shop.”

Littlehampton Bonfire Society’s latest update about the event was posted to Facebook on Saturday. It said: “We’d like to thank members of the public for their support with this very difficult decision that had to be made. The committee of the Bonfire Society looks forward to seeing you Sunday evening.”
The timetable is:
4pm: Cole’s FunFair and food vendors open.
7.30pm: Lighting of the bonfire.
8pm: Grand Fireworks Spectacular.
