Wadhurst parents have been questioning why the playground has been closed since Christmas. With schools closed the parents are frustrated that there is nowhere for their children to ‘let off steam’.

This frustration grew into a petition from the parents, headed up by Julia Olden.

Wadhurst Parish Council has now revealed the reason for the closure and told parents the playground will be open again tomorrow (February 27).

A spokesperson for the council said, “The parish council decided to keep the play area closed following a professional risk assessment carried out in January, where the advice received was not to open the play area.

“The parish council arranged a second risk assessment in February and was told that with certain safety measures put in place then the play area could be reopened.

“The parish council has been working on these measures to open the play area, as safely as possibly. Tomorrow (February 26) the play area will be sprayed with a special spray that lasts 28 days by a professional company who is accredited to carry this out. All being well, the play area will be opened on Saturday.”

In response to this turnaround, Julia said, “That is fantastic. I am delighted that following our recent campaign the parish council have decided to do what is right by their constituents; they represent the people of Wadhurst and had the good grace to reconsider their position.

“What a relief for all the local parents who have tirelessly slogged through this lockdown to know that they now have a safe area to go and play with their children. I am sure we all appreciate the ’special spray’ being applied to the playground after two months of it being closed.”
