Equality is key for Findon Valley school headteacher

ALL pupils should be valued equally. That is the message headteacher of Vale First and Middle School, Martin Garratt, is keen to promote.

The ethos of his school, based in Findon Valley, is to make sure that each child ‑ whether they excel at school, have a disability, or find it tough to learn ‑ is treated the same.

The school’s main tag line, Valuing All Learners Equally, is used to help everyone at the school focus on this message.

Mr Garratt said: “Our school is about making sure our gifted and talented pupils can focus on their skills, be it sports, music, chess, or maths and English.

“It’s about valuing those children who find learning a challenge as well and making sure we find what they need to help them progress for when they leave in Year seven.

“Then there are children with specific needs, like a disability, and making sure they are included and are able to take part.”
